Chapter 33: The Empire’s Second Prince
Now that the time was almost right, Duke Wensa had basically prepared the coronation ceremony. Speaking of which, he still hadn’t seen Bai Li’s magical abilities.
And so, last night Bai Li and Vivian still slept in the same bed. He lay on the edge of the bed, with a gap wide enough for about one person in between them.
He didn’t know if it was because he drank some rosemary, but that night he spoke all the words in his heart. However, this seemed pretty good too?
Vivian promised him she’d consider letting him recover some of his magical power, though she estimated the Rose Sanctuary members would have difficulty accepting his identity.
“Well, I won’t expose my ice magic unless absolutely necessary.” He wrapped himself in the blanket, feeling the long-missed magical power in his body. Although it was currently only at one-tenth the level, how could his human individual potential compare to that of the Blood Clan?
As the first person with ice attributes who could accept the Seraph inheritance, the combination of these two extreme powers had made him the pinnacle of the Empire’s combat strength.
Even the veteran Templar Knight Cook would pale in comparison before him.
It was just that now lying in the same bed with Vivian was somewhat ironic.
…
The next day, when Bai Li got up to wash, he looked at himself in the mirror and felt something was off.
“Strange, what’s wrong with my eyes?” He could see that his pupils were starting to turn slightly red, though fortunately he could still control it himself.
He remembered Teresa’s sorrowful eyes from before – her eye color at that time was basically identical to his now.
Could it be that after having a mana bar, his innate skills could be used?
After finishing washing and leaving the bathroom, Teresa had been waiting in the living room for quite some time. Logically speaking, shouldn’t Vivian wake up earlier than him? She was always grooming herself.
“Good morning, Big Brother Bai. You drank Teresa’s medicine yesterday, right?”
He affectionately patted Teresa’s head. She closed her eyes comfortably, seeming to enjoy it, with a sweet and innocent smile on her face.
Having lost her family twice, she could still face life optimistically. Bai Li’s expression stiffened – he would have to face her eventually, just didn’t know when…
“Oh right, Sister Vivian seems a bit unwell.”
Bai Li felt strange. He’d never heard of the Blood Clan getting sick. What were the details? Teresa said when she got up early, she felt nauseous and wanted to vomit.
It was over. Could it really be…
“Teresa, go play by yourself first. I’ll go see what’s wrong with Sister Vivian.”
Under Teresa’s surprised gaze, Bai Li hurried back to the room.
“So those two are so loving. Then I can be at ease.”
Pushing open the door, Vivian was applying sunscreen while facing the mirror. Through the mirror, she noticed Bai Li had just returned.
“What’s wrong with you? You rarely get up earlier than me today.” Vivian replied halfheartedly. “It’s all your fault – you made me apply the sunscreen crooked.”
It was indeed quite strange. Vivian’s cosmetics cabinet had everything – she really knew about maintenance.
“Aren’t the Blood Clan supposed to stay young forever? Why do you apply all this stuff?”
Vivian really wanted to roll her eyes at him. This brainless guy would never understand what girls think about.
When asked about her feeling unwell, Bai Li shyly turned his head away.
“Is there a possibility that you disgusted me last night? Stop pretending to be noble.” Vivian finished applying sunscreen and patted her supple skin.
She had some serious business today. The Empire’s reconnaissance troops had crossed the border, and after Wensa reported it to her, he requested to handle it himself, but Vivian rarely refused.
“It looks like the student you trained before is quite capable. Do you want to go meet him?”
He smiled bitterly. If news of him still being alive got back, although he didn’t form cliques in the Empire, if investigated deeply, quite a few things could still be implicated.
Vivian leaned close to his face. This sudden intimate contact made Bai Li very uncomfortable – he could even feel Vivian’s breath.
“Looks like there are no adverse reactions. Let’s go take a look together. He won’t recognize you – after your incident, the Empire sealed all your files.”
Since Vivian said so, he could only bite the bullet and go. But it seemed that aside from Lan, the Empire’s upper echelons, and Principal Nashville, no one had seen his face.
Including the student he had previously trained.
“I don’t want to go. Before that, I want to clarify one thing first. You wouldn’t really be…”
Vivian waved her hand, interrupting him. “Let’s pluck out those eyes first before talking.”
When it came to serious matters, she was still so stern. The Empire invading her Rose Sanctuary had already crossed her red line.
Bai Li was afraid something would happen to her. After all, if something happened to a pregnant woman, he couldn’t bear the responsibility.
“Wait for me…”
Vivian turned back and took his hand, activating her teleportation skill to flash directly to their destination.
In front, Blood Clan guards were pursuing and intercepting the Empire’s reconnaissance soldiers. These heavy armored knights were not something these light infantry could handle.
The leading young man had his hook and chain hanging on the cliff, swinging back and forth agilely. When he saw the rose petals floating near that black-dressed girl, he knew trouble was brewing.
“Everyone scatter quickly – it’s a noble vampire!”
A cloud of smoke erupted from the middle of the crowd. Bai Li saw this move and couldn’t help but laugh.
“Wait, isn’t this the smoke bomb formula I created?”
He skillfully manipulated the water molecules in the mist. Immediately the clouds cleared and rain stopped, and the reconnaissance troops on the flat ground were surrounded again.
The iron chain on the hook extended – he hadn’t expected the smoke to be dispersed so quickly.
He had no choice but to fall back to the ground, cautiously facing Vivian and Bai Li. Two noble vampires had their eyes on them – it seemed they were doomed this time.
Seeing this hook and chain, Bai Li knew who this was.
Vivian’s magic scythe burned with red hellfire. She smiled with ill intent, her gentle expression bringing no relief to the Empire’s reconnaissance troops.
“Since you’re here, won’t you stay for tea before leaving?”
The blazing fire that cracked open the ground completely surrounded them. The iron chain of the hook touched Vivian’s flames and immediately turned red-hot. He had to retract it – he was completely no match for the noble vampire in front of him.
Bai Li waved his hand, casually extinguishing a corner of the scorching fire ring, and slowly walked in, the cold light emanating from his body containing no goodwill.
“Second Prince Claude Sloy, am I right? The second son of the Empire’s current ruler?”
Sloy threw his hook, the spinning scythe hooking around Bai Li’s neck, but only hit a blue shadow.
“Your next move is to conduct electricity to bind me, right?” Bai Li grabbed the hook, the frost covering his hand completely insulating the crackling scythe. Then he stepped back – sure enough, iron chains drilled out from underground. If he had still been there, he definitely would have been caught.
For the student he had personally trained, Bai Li was very clear about his capabilities.
“I just want to ask you one thing. Perhaps we can let bygones be bygones regarding this invasion.”
Vivian came up and pinched his face, muttering quietly.
“Give you a little freedom and you push your luck, huh?”
Bai Li laughed awkwardly. He knew he’d have to coax her properly when they got back
