Chapter 22
Chapter 22: Why Are You Wearing Your Sister’s Clothes?
“Huh?”
Gu Wanqing was stunned for a moment, her first reaction being to worry whether staying here would disturb Lin Shen.
After all, her sister had already broken up with him, so there was no longer any relationship between them.
They were essentially strangers now.
Strangers living together…
“That wouldn’t be appropriate, would it?”
Gu Wanqing seemed a bit restrained.
“My sister hurt you so deeply, you must really hate me too, right?”
“I’ve only heard of ‘love me, love my dog,’ but never ‘hate me, hate my dog.’”
Lin Shen chuckled softly.
“Why would I drag you into your sister’s mess? You two are completely separate individuals. Her mistakes don’t make you wrong too—no need to blame yourself.”
“Of course, this is just a suggestion. The decision is yours.”
Lin Shen concluded.
He had invited Gu Wanqing to stay without any improper thoughts whatsoever.
He simply felt that for a young girl like her, coming to Shanghai for the first time and not knowing anything, living alone outside wasn’t quite safe.
Though this was a society governed by law, there were still things to worry about.
It was like a big brother’s care for his little sister.
That’s right!
Lin Shen had long considered Gu Wanqing like his own little sister, and had even met her and Gu Wanting’s parents.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they were preparing for marriage.
It was just unfortunate that after three years of dating, someone else had stolen his girlfriend.
Though he was annoyed, Lin Shen wouldn’t involve other people because of this—that would show too much resentment.
Now that he had the cracked app, he was the happiest person in the world.
According to the principle that the happier person should yield, his best course of action was to let go of the terrible past and welcome a bright, new future!
Moreover, seeing Gu Wanqing dragging her luggage, Lin Shen immediately understood that her original plan had been to rely on Gu Wanting and stay here.
She seemed a bit afraid of living alone too. Those words she’d said earlier were just polite bravado.
Indeed, that was the case.
Gu Wanqing was extremely conflicted right now.
If she didn’t stay, she’d have to spend the night alone in an unfamiliar hotel.
Just thinking about it was terrifying!
But if she did stay, it would seem too inconsiderate.
Gu Wanqing was a well-behaved child who had been taught from a young age to be polite and humble, to know gratitude, and not to trouble others easily.
But…
Gu Wanqing pressed her thin lips together, her left hand cutely twirling the left braid of her twin tails that hung over her chest, while her right hand gripping the suitcase alternately tightened and loosened.
After an internal struggle, she looked at Lin Shen tentatively.
“It wouldn’t be too much trouble to stay, would it?”
“What trouble could there be?”
Lin Shen said half-jokingly.
“Don’t forget, your sister used to live here too. Since she’s not here, you can take her place.”
“That’s good then.”
Gu Wanqing let out a sigh of relief, clearly not catching Lin Shen’s teasing tone, and even smiled sweetly in gratitude.
“Thank you, brother-in-law!”
“You still call me brother-in-law?”
“Oh no!”
Gu Wanqing clasped her hands together and shook them back and forth, making exaggerated apologetic faces.
“Sorry, brother-in-law… ah, no! Sorry, Brother Shen! I’m just used to it…”
“It’s fine.”
Lin Shen didn’t mind the form of address.
In fact, compared to “Brother Shen,” he actually preferred being called brother-in-law.
It sounded so thrilling!
“How many days are you staying in Shanghai?”
“Four days, according to plan!”
“Then you take the master bedroom.”
Lin Shen led Gu Wanqing to the master bedroom, and she looked around curiously.
The room was decorated warmly. Though there were many traces of daily life, it wasn’t messy—rather, it felt reassuring.
At least staying here, Gu Wanqing felt she wouldn’t be afraid.
“There are new sheets and covers, I’ll change them for you later.”
“What about you, brother-in-law?”
“I’ll sleep in the second bedroom.”
“I should take the second bedroom instead!”
Gu Wanqing turned to leave, but suddenly heard Lin Shen’s teasing voice.
“Are you sure? The second bedroom has quite a few of my private items.”
“Never mind then!”
Gu Wanqing slunk back to the master bedroom, stuck out her tongue, and bowed to Lin Shen.
“I’ll be troubling you these few days, brother-in-law!”
“No problem.”
Lin Shen waved his hand.
“I’m going to take a shower. You can settle in first.”
“Okay!”
Because of his workout, Lin Shen was still wearing moisture-wicking clothes stained with sweat.
He took his change of clothes and went into the bathroom, silently grumbling to himself.
If only he hadn’t thrown away Gu Wanting’s toiletries.
Also, would he not be able to go shirtless at home anymore?
This point gave Lin Shen quite a headache.
But his innate kindness wouldn’t let him make a barely-adult young girl live alone outside just because of such a small matter.
Gu Wanqing would definitely be safer living with him!
Ten minutes later, Lin Shen emerged from the bathroom dressed, only to be surprised by what he saw.
Gu Wanqing was actually cleaning the living room, bustling about looking particularly industrious and professional.
“What are you…”
“Brother-in-law, you’re done showering?”
Gu Wanqing, who had been wiping the table, straightened up and used her forearm to wipe the sweat from her forehead, tilting her head with some confusion.
“Didn’t you tell me to settle in?”
“I meant settle in your luggage.”
Lin Shen rubbed his forehead and sighed softly.
“Not help me clean.”
“That won’t do!”
This time Gu Wanqing’s attitude was quite firm.
“I can’t just freeload at brother-in-law’s place!”
Hearing this, Lin Shen silently grumbled to himself.
What the hell!
How could sisters have such different personalities?
Gu Wanting had lived here for two years, and forget about cleaning—she was too lazy even to organize her own clothes.
But her sister turned out to be the diligent one.
Was this the legendary complementarity?
“Put down the cloth first.”
Lin Shen called Gu Wanqing over and looked her up and down.
She had changed out of the dress she’d worn here, switching to an oversized black T-shirt and frayed denim shorts as loungewear.
Her two extraordinarily slender and snow-white legs were exposed, dazzling in the sunlight.
Especially since the T-shirt was too big, with the hem covering the high-waisted shorts completely, making it look like she wasn’t wearing pants at all.
This made Lin Shen quite curious.
Clearly, this clothing size obviously didn’t fit Gu Wanqing’s petite frame.
“Where did you get these clothes?”
“Well…”
Gu Wanqing’s beautiful eyes darted around everywhere except meeting Lin Shen’s gaze, clearly avoiding something.
This made him understand immediately.
“You’re wearing your sister’s clothes?”
“I might get dirty doing chores, so I found some clothes my sister left behind to wear.”
Gu Wanqing looked up at Lin Shen pitifully, her hands rubbing together in front of her.
“Sorry, brother-in-law. I opened your closet without permission and invaded your privacy.”
“That’s nothing.”
Lin Shen waved his hand.
“As long as you don’t mind.”
“How could I mind my sister’s clothes?”
Seeing that Lin Shen wasn’t blaming her, Gu Wanqing immediately brightened up.
“Oh! I also found several strange outfits—bunny girl and Christmas reindeer costumes. When did my sister get into cosplay?”
