Chapter 9
Chapter 9: White Dress
Ji Yueling always trusted her intuition very much, or rather, it was a kind of talent. She was always especially sensitive, sensitively perceiving all traces and clues, which was why she became suspicious of Gu Qing.
So she stared at Gu Qing with cold, extremely aggressive eyes for seven or eight seconds. She didn’t speak, but such a gaze on her beautiful face seemed to carry even more pressure.
“It’s just a routine check. Don’t be nervous.”
“Big sister, you came in with a cold expression and spoke in an interrogating tone. You’re with the Alliance—how can I not be nervous?” Gu Qing answered wearily. Ji Yueling was silent for a moment, then said slowly, “That recording you made for me last time—I found a professor who studies demons extensively to translate it for me, but his answer was only a few short words.”
“Hm? What did he translate?”
“Leave A City, or die.”
“Isn’t that about the same meaning I told you…” Gu Qing also sat in a chair and continued wrapping dumplings, slowly adding, “His research into demon language probably isn’t as deep as mine. My ability is memory-type awakening, equivalent to directly mastering demon language, while he probably relies on various information and experience to judge, so his translation isn’t very clear and sounds more brief.”
This answer was also flawless.
Ji Yueling still couldn’t find any flaws in Gu Qing, but she stared at him for a few seconds, then suddenly said, “Give me your hand.”
Gu Qing was still wrapping dumplings, so he had to wipe his hands and extend them to Ji Yueling. Ji Yueling immediately saw the dense knife scars on his hands and asked coldly, “What are these scars from?”
“I had severe mania a couple years ago. I’d cut my hands with a small knife to relieve the pain when I had nothing else to do. I’ve been much better these past two years.” Gu Qing answered truthfully.
“Mania?”
“Hey, I’m a vagrant. What’s wrong with having some mental illness?” Gu Qing seemed increasingly helpless. Ji Yueling didn’t probe further but suddenly grabbed his wrist. The next instant, her fingertips became incredibly sharp, like blades, cutting open his wrist. A shallow bloody mark flowed as Gu Qing cried out. Even more terrifying was the next moment when Ji Yueling’s fingertip pressed against his wound, then quickly withdrew it and brought it to her lips.
“You’re the one who’s mentally ill!” Gu Qing hurriedly pulled his hand back, while her lips were now stained with a trace of blood. In an instant, she used her tongue to lick that trace of blood clean.
Very clean, ordinary, mediocre blood.
No connection whatsoever to the imperial blood left in last night’s embryo.
Ji Yueling extended her hand toward him again. Gu Qing trembled reluctantly as he handed over his hand, but this time, her palm became warm, emitting milky white light, quickly healing his wound completely. She said indifferently, “Just extracting a blood sample for testing. No need to panic.”
“What kind of testing is that…”
“I guess you don’t want to come with me on a trip. My analytical ability is more precise than those instruments.” Ji Yueling answered calmly, once again looking at Gu Qing before her.
At this point, there seemed to be nothing left to ask. Gu Qing showed no suspicious points.
Since there were no suspicious points, Ji Yueling naturally stood up. “I’m leaving.”
She walked several steps toward the door, but suddenly turned back, trying to find a trace of relaxed expression on Gu Qing’s face. Unfortunately, she only saw Gu Qing rolling his eyes at her back, as if complaining that she was a mentally ill person, acting strangely.
This made her somewhat displeased. She raised her chin and said indifferently, “You like drinking a lot?”
Gu Qing hesitated. “I guess so.”
“Give me your phone number. I’ll ask you out for drinks when I have time.”
“Huh?” Gu Qing tilted his head. “Ask me out for what?”
“To learn some demon language knowledge from you while we’re at it.”
“Maybe we should forget about it… Big sister, your kind of high-risk profession—I always feel like the closer you get, the faster you die.” Gu Qing shook his head reluctantly, seeming to want to refuse. Ji Yueling looked at him coldly. “I’ll pay for the drinks, plus give you an extra two thousand each time?”
“Big sister, let me add you.” In an instant, Gu Qing pulled out his phone and trotted over, as if afraid she might regret it.
Behind her, Gu Qing made faces.
Calling it discussion when it was clearly an order.
………………………………
Gu Qing and Lu Qianqian continued wrapping dumplings.
“Were you… severely manic before?” Lu Qianqian’s voice became careful.
Gu Qing waved his hand. “Ah, in earlier years when I was wandering outside, I couldn’t see things clearly. Not being philosophical enough, I’d think about this and that, driving myself manic. Now I’ve figured things out, so naturally I’m better. Don’t worry, don’t worry. I have a good temper now—no one can make me angry anymore.”
Lu Qianqian was silent for a while, then suddenly remembered something and said quietly, “Tonight… I want to show you something.”
“Hm? What is it?”
“After… after I shower… I’ll show you…” Lu Qianqian lowered her head slightly, seeming somewhat hesitant, biting her lip lightly.
Gu Qing scratched his head in confusion.
“Don’t say such strange suggestive things…” He smiled helplessly and stood up. “Should I start cooking dinner then?”
“Mm.”
…………………………………
For dinner, Gu Qing made three dishes: braised chicken, sweet and sour cabbage, and dried shrimp with silk gourd.
Since childhood, he knew he was a very talented child. Besides his photographic memory, he also possessed some interesting small talents—like being very sensitive to weight perception. He could hold an apple and roughly tell you its weight in grams. His color observation was also very detailed, and his perception of temperature and smell were very clear. These small talents combined made him a good cook.
Before running away from home, his naturally spoiled princess sister would throw recipes at him every day, making him prepare dinner. If he was unwilling, she would kick his back hard with her pale little legs. Unable to bear this violent female sadist’s beatings and verbal humiliation, Gu Qing fled home and began his vagrant life.
The cooking skills he had practiced now had a place to be used.
Gu Qing glanced at Lu Qianqian’s expression. After tasting that piece of sweet and sour cabbage, her eyes were full of joy, looking especially satisfied. This made his heart feel relaxed too. He still ate slowly, waiting until Lu Qianqian was full and put down her chopsticks before eating all the remaining food.
After eating, the two sat on the sofa watching TV together. Actually, those variety shows were boring—Gu Qing couldn’t really get into them, but this world had many boring things anyway. He could only make do.
It wasn’t until evening, when the sky outside gradually darkened, that Lu Qianqian stood up and said softly, “Then… I’m going to shower.”
“Mm, go ahead.”
The sound of rushing water came from the bathroom. Gu Qing lazily leaned back on the sofa, suddenly remembering what Lu Qianqian had said during the day. After a while, the bathroom door opened, and his gaze instinctively looked over.
Lu Qianqian was no longer wearing those very warm pajamas but had changed into loose pink pajamas with very short pink shorts below, revealing her long, slender legs. Although she wasn’t very tall, her proportions were well-balanced and slender. The legs beneath the shorts were long and white, slender and straight, just a bit thin.
The pink pajama top clung to her body, with a slightly loose neckline. Only then did Gu Qing notice that the girl’s chest seemed fuller than others her age. Fortunately, she was wearing underwear.
She slowly walked toward Gu Qing, but her hands remained on her legs, seemingly hiding something. Only when she got closer did she bite her lip lightly and say somewhat timidly, “Look…”
She raised her
