Chapter 73
Chapter 73: Celia Rosetti
When Michelle led Funis back to the director’s office, Charlotte had already been asleep at the desk for quite some time.
“Mm, who is it?” She lifted her head drowsily, the left side of her face bearing clear light red impressions, with a strand of golden hair stuck to it.
Funis walked forward with some exasperation, using her handkerchief to wipe away the long trail of drool from the corner of her foolish daughter’s mouth, then smoothed out her disheveled golden curls.
“Little Celia?” Charlotte was confused and bewildered.
Only barely recognizing a small pink bundle, she didn’t think much of it and wrapped her arms around Funis’s neck, pulling her close. “So soft… so fragrant… want to hold her like this forever…”
“Wake up, Sister Charlotte! Director Michelle is back!” Funis was nearly driven to despair by her foolish daughter, and she was too weak to break free.
“Ahem.” Michelle tapped the desk.
Charlotte instantly stood up, completely alert from her previous drowsiness. “Report, Director! No visitors during your absence. Everything normal.”
“Well, it is lunch break. It would be unusual if someone came.” Michelle patted Charlotte’s shoulder.
Charlotte smiled sheepishly and moved her chair back to Michelle, then retreated to Funis’s side.
The girl couldn’t help but stroke the long hair at the back of Funis’s neck, gently caressing while looking up to ask Michelle, “Is it over? Was the content really classified at the Grand Throne Angel level? Is it inappropriate to share with me?”
“Hard to say—I can’t judge. However, due to some special reasons, Celia is now an agent of the Temperance Institute.” Michelle pulled out an uncarved Temperance Institute emblem from the bottom drawer of her desk. “Appointed by me and guaranteed by me, so you’re colleagues now.”
“Agent? Celia?” Charlotte suspected she wasn’t fully awake and pinched her left cheek hard, making it even redder.
It hurt quite a bit.
“You’re not dreaming, Enforcer Charlotte.” Michelle smiled faintly.
“Ah!?” Charlotte’s pupils dilated in shock. “But Celia is still a child! Ten years old? Eleven? Twelve? Or thirteen? Celia, how old are you again? Oh right, you have amnesia and don’t remember… But even if Celia is older, say fourteen but just looks petite, this is still too hasty! Does the Temperance Institute have age restrictions?”
“The Temperance Institute has never restricted personnel age.” Michelle waved her hand, indicating not to pursue this topic further. “Rather than worrying about this, take Celia to the inscription room to register her information. Don’t forget—she’s currently undocumented.”
Charlotte immediately fell silent.
This was an awkward and realistic matter. In Charlotte’s view, Celia was already homeless with an untraceable personal history. In Michelle’s view, Celia was just a poor little dream demon who had made a mistake and gotten trapped in the human world. From either perspective, she was undoubtedly undocumented.
“In that case, how should we fill out the information?” Funis asked.
“Children without household registration can be adopted without problems, but I’m not old enough to be Celia’s mother.” Charlotte thought of a feasible but not quite feasible solution, feeling frustrated.
This statement nearly made Funis faint with anger, her head buzzing.
The ungrateful daughter she had painstakingly raised for nine years suddenly wanted to become her mother—who wouldn’t be furious?
“Then put Rosetti in the surname field.” Michelle was already buried in paperwork, speaking casually. “I’ll write to the Archbishop—he’ll offer his blessings for my newly adopted child.”
“Goodness… Director Michelle, you…” Charlotte was amazed by Michelle’s decision.
“Thank you for your generosity, madam.” Funis was also surprised but didn’t show it.
“Alright, Charlotte, take Celia out. When Joseph’s people arrive, you and Celia will be responsible for reviewing that street accident. Your first collaboration—set a good example for the newcomer.” Michelle tossed the blank emblem to Charlotte.
Charlotte caught it steadily, her eyes lighting up. “Partnering with little Celia? I understand, Director Michelle!”
The girl suddenly became energetic. Funis had a bad feeling, remembering that Charlotte tended to cause all sorts of strange problems when in this state.
“What ‘little Celia’—show some respect for your new colleague. It should be Agent Celia Rosetti.” Michelle smiled wryly.
“But Uncle Roy always calls us ‘little Charlotte’ and ‘little Molly’—it’s so sickening. Being affectionate between colleagues isn’t a big deal, right?” Charlotte protested.
“Celia Rosetti.” Hearing this surname-bearing new name, Funis was somewhat dazed.
A strange sense of unreality—
So much had happened in such a short time that she hadn’t had time to properly process it all. When she came to her senses, she found her identity had undergone wave after wave of dramatic changes.
Even though this was a false identity, it had been given considerable meaning.
But regardless, the story of Agent Celia Rosetti would continue, just as the story of the Witch Funis would continue. Both were herself.
