Chapter 30
Chapter 30: But I’m a Veterinarian
Only then did Xie Changqing realize that Nomin had also thrown up the firewood she had chopped.
Obviously, she had deliberately not mentioned it, knowing that if she had told him, Xie Changqing definitely wouldn’t have accepted it.
Now, Xie Changqing had to accept it whether he wanted to or not.
Tana still didn’t know what had happened and said happily, “Oh good, with all this firewood, it should be enough for us to use…”
“This much?” Xie Changqing was a bit surprised and said hesitantly, “If it’s just for our own use, this might be too much.”
When he had visited the herders’ homes earlier, he had also seen them collecting firewood.
A family would need about that much firewood.
As long as they didn’t waste it or use it carelessly.
This firewood was enough for two yurts. Batu and the others were small, and now one yurt was enough for them to live in – they couldn’t possibly use this much firewood.
“It won’t be too much,” Tana put down the firewood in her hands and said with certainty. “It’s like this every year, sometimes there’s even less…”
As she spoke, she suddenly understood.
Xie Changqing sighed and came over to help her stack the firewood.
“That damn bastard!” Tana was furious and viciously chopped her hatchet into a wooden stick. “Don’t let me catch him!”
Obviously, in all those previous years when there wasn’t enough, Xie Yu must have taken it to give to his lovers outside.
“Alright, alright, forget about him.” Xie Changqing smiled to comfort her while carrying the fodder inside.
Batu was very excited, running back and forth: “Aha, you don’t even know – I was so amazing today! I cut so much grass!”
He waved his hands, and Xie Changqing’s sharp eyes immediately caught a glimpse of red marks flashing by.
After putting the things away, Xie Changqing grabbed him and pulled him into the yurt: “Come here.”
The little guy didn’t know his own limits – his hand had been cut and was bleeding. Although the blood had clotted by now, it was still seeping when he moved.
“Doesn’t it hurt?” Xie Changqing frowned.
Batu looked at him carefully, hesitated for a moment, then nodded: “…It hurts.”
The next second, he covered his head with his arms.
Xie Changqing, holding disinfectant, looked at him with confusion: “What are you doing?”
“Huh?” Batu peeked out from under his arms with his round eyes: “Aren’t you going to hit me?”
In the past, whenever he got injured, his father would always hit him.
“Why would I hit you?” Xie Changqing pulled him over and carefully disinfected the wound. “This will hurt a bit – bear with it.”
He gently blew on the wound and then bandaged it: “Don’t underestimate this kind of injury. That knife of yours is all rusty – if you don’t treat it promptly, it can easily cause problems…”
Tetanus, sepsis – both quite troublesome.
Batu curiously poked at the gauze, not afraid of pain at all: “Hehe, didn’t Father say this couldn’t be wasted on me?”
Hearing this, the corner of Xie Changqing’s mouth twitched slightly.
He really didn’t know what to say.
Logically speaking, the entire ranch had given almost all available resources to Xie Yu.
Could he really be lacking in medicine and gauze?
So it’s true that where a man’s heart is, that’s where his money goes.
Since he didn’t love this family, he really was reluctant to spend even a penny on them…
“This isn’t waste…” Xie Changqing sighed and took out a bag of white sugar. “Go get a bowl.”
This was what Qiaoba had just brought back for him, specifically instructing that it was for their family.
The last time Batu had seen white sugar was when Xie Yu was still around, but unfortunately he had only managed to touch a few grains on the table.
But he still remembered that sweet taste even now!
Therefore, his eyes went straight, and it wasn’t until Xie Changqing called him again that he quickly got up: “…Oh, oh!”
A bowl of water for each person with some white sugar added – that made an excellent drink.
Xie Duoduo and Batu had never tasted such a good thing and drank it with smacking lips.
The further they got, the more reluctant they were to finish it.
He didn’t dare give the little sister too much sugar water since she was so young.
“I’m afraid it’ll spoil her palate later,” Tana muttered, telling Xie Changqing to quickly put it away. “Don’t waste it – keep it for yourself!”
Xie Changqing smiled and put it away as she said: “There’s plenty.”
He also knew that white sugar was a precious commodity these days – otherwise Qiaoba wouldn’t have looked so proud when giving it to him.
But he really couldn’t be as selfish as Xie Yu, hiding and hoarding everything to eat alone… tsk.
“Aha!” After finishing the sugar water, Xie Duoduo pounced on Xie Changqing’s legs: “Hug!”
The little sister waved her arms and legs, babbling.
Xie Changqing picked up Xie Duoduo and lifted her high.
“Hahahaha…”
The whole family was joyful. No matter how fierce the wind and snow outside, inside it was warm and cozy.
After drinking sugar water in the afternoon, dinner was simple.
They didn’t cook meat again – Tana made some flatbread.
This wasn’t the dry, hard kind of flatbread. It had just been baked on the stove and was fragrant and crispy.
One bite and your mouth was filled with aroma.
Xie Changqing had just eaten two pieces when someone called from outside.
“Changqing, Changqing!”
“Coming!” Xie Changqing quickly lifted the door curtain, and as soon as he opened his mouth, he was hit by the bone-chilling cold wind.
Nomin rode up on horseback and stopped sharply in front of him: “Quick, Haierte has returned. Bring your medical kit and come with me!”
Xie Changqing didn’t ask about the situation – he turned around, grabbed his medical kit, and left.
“Wait!” Tana quickly put the fox fur coat on him and carefully wrapped a scarf around him until only his eyes were showing: “Be careful! Getting frostbite is no joke!”
Fortunately, Batu was quite observant and ran to bring out Lightning: “Aha! Here!”
“Well done.” Xie Changqing nimbly mounted his horse and hurried along with Nomin through the wind and snow.
“Follow the path I took – the other places will be slippery.”
If the horse slipped and broke a leg, it would be useless.
Nomin was really anxious, or she wouldn’t have ridden over.
“Alright.” Xie Changqing pulled his hat brim low, his voice muffled by the scarf: “What happened to Haierte?”
Only then did Nomin realize she had been too anxious and hadn’t explained the situation: “Haierte and Hairile were rushing to get back before dark and were going too fast. They didn’t see the branches under the snow, and his horse threw him off. His leg got a long gash.”
Xie Changqing was stunned and said hesitantly: “But I’m a veterinarian.”
However, given the current situation, that couldn’t be helped.
As he rode, he pondered in his mind.
Fortunately, he still had some points.
If the situation was critical, he would first exchange medicine from the medical kit to save Haierte…
When they arrived, Xie Changqing could see blood spots in the snow from far away.
His heart sank slightly, and he quickly walked inside.
Sangtu’s whole family was gathered in the yurt, watching over Haierte, extremely anxious.
Seeing him arrive, they looked like they had found their backbone: “Changqing…”
“Everyone step back a bit first. I need to assess the situation.” Xie Changqing didn’t worry about anything else and directly instructed: “Heat some water – I need to clean his wound.”
