Chapter 19
Chapter 19: You Never Said There’d Be an Exam!
Nine o’clock in the evening.
Adelina, like most nobles, left the banquet hall surrounded by her family members.
“Lady Adelina, shall we depart?”
Adelina got into the carriage and took one last look at Silver Moon Valley.
Moonlight bathed the towering spires of Silver Moon Valley, the glass curtain walls reflecting soft light, as if draped in a layer of hazy silver gauze.
The night breeze gently blew, swaying tree shadows danced on the ground, and the distant fountain still sparkled with starlight in the moonlight.
“In the end, that guy Philin still didn’t make a single request.”
Adelina said quietly in the carriage.
She felt like she owed him so much.
Should she reward him with money again?
At least, not tonight—she couldn’t reward him with money this time. This wasn’t a transaction.
Adelina twirled her hair, thinking silently to herself.
He wants to get into the Royal Capital Academy, doesn’t he?
Then let me, this excellent young lady, help him with his studies.
Have him come to my house, and I’ll teach him properly.
Or maybe I could go to his house.
Adelina quickly shook her head.
How could she have thoughts about wanting to understand Philin?
“Let’s go.” Adelina said to the driver.
The carriage slowly pulled away, and Silver Moon Valley’s silhouette gradually blurred in her vision.
Finally melting into this starlit night.
Philin also took one last look at the castle.
He might never have another chance to enter such a place.
A castle full of maids—it was absolutely wonderful!
Two moons, one large and one small, cast down a hazy glow of intertwined silver-white and pale blue.
Philin carried Dai’s suitcase, walking ahead.
Unlike other young ladies, Dai had no guards or servants beside her.
“Speaking of which, Miss Dai, why did you suddenly think we should play lovers in private too?”
Dai froze for a moment.
“This… that…”
She opened her mouth to say something, but found herself stuttering. Then she pretended to adjust her skirt to hide her embarrassment.
“Actually, it’s my father…”
She turned her head away, her face flushed red beneath her hair.
“My father thinks I’m lying. So he said he’d send someone to check if we’re really a couple.”
“Ah? Why didn’t you say so earlier?”
This was troublesome.
Who knew that even selling yourself required an exam?
“I saw you were immersed in the joy of pretending to be my boyfriend, so I didn’t have the heart to burst your bubble.” Dai still didn’t dare look at Philin.
As if! You were just too embarrassed to say it yourself.
“Miss Dai, let me ask—you didn’t say anything strange about us to your father, did you?”
“Huh?”
Dai reacted, blinking her eyes.
“You mean the part where I told my father I was pregnant?”
“Pregnant?!”
This Dai really knew how to stir up trouble!
As if he didn’t have enough problems already.
Seeing Philin’s exaggerated expression, Dai burst into laughter.
“How could I say that? Your reaction is way too dramatic.”
Dai came to Philin’s side, showing a mischievous smile.
“I was just thinking—living with a beautiful girl like me, I seriously doubt you’d be able to control yourself. But since I’m not as strong as you, I couldn’t stop your beastly behavior. But pregnancy is absolutely not allowed.”
“I told you I’m not that kind of person!”
Philin was exasperated. This young lady was truly wicked.
She swept her hair behind her, and a faint rose fragrance drifted past his nose.
Dai walked past Philin with that smug look, just like a little fox who’d successfully pulled a prank.
Mist Street District.
“It’s a bit larger than I imagined. Somewhat surprising.”
Dai stood in front of Philin’s house, making this comment.
Whether it was flattery or whether Dai had imagined he lived in a 5-square-meter birdcage, in any case, this two-story house with a yard that he’d bought after selling all his family assets wasn’t particularly large.
“Excuse the intrusion.”
Dai greeted the empty house.
Philin cleaned out a room for Dai.
“Sorry, my living conditions are limited.”
“I’m the one intruding. And I really like your home.”
Dai wasn’t lying.
She looked around with considerable curiosity.
Several pots of thriving plants sat on the windowsill.
The books on the shelf weren’t numerous but were neatly organized.
Even the coasters on the coffee table were carefully chosen styles.
This place was simple and ordinary, but it didn’t lack respect and love for life.
“Are there any places in this house I’m not allowed to go?”
“Huh? No. Why do you ask?”
Philin stopped what he was doing and looked up questioningly.
“I’m afraid you might have a basement where you’d lock me up for life and never let me out. Or some rooms with girls hidden in them.” Dai said these terrible things with a straight face.
“Don’t say such awful things!”
Philin poked his head out of the room to protest.
She came here to stay, yet she was saying such vicious things.
The bedroom wasn’t large, but it was clean.
The sheets and bedding were freshly changed.
“Speaking of which, now that I’m living here and receiving your full-time service, the payment will need to be recalculated.”
Dai propped her chin with one hand, calculating the amount.
“Ha ha ha, why calculate so precisely? How could our relationship be measured with money? Why don’t you just give me quadruple wages, plus meal allowances, transportation fees, high-temperature subsidies, year-end bonuses, perfect attendance awards, and 10 days of paid vacation, plus annual health checkups.”
Philin said his inner thoughts with a relaxed expression.
After hearing Philin’s long list of demands, Dai silently used her slender fingers to gently slip off her dress strap, revealing a stretch of snow-white shoulder.
Her black hair slid down from her shoulder, making that small patch of skin appear even more lustrous.
“Wait! I know it’s a bit much, but we can negotiate! There’s no need to pay with your body…”
Dai stopped her movement, a flash of confusion in her dark green eyes, then she seemed to understand something.
That delicate face remained expressionless, but her eyes held a hint of mockery.
“What are you thinking?” she said flatly. “I was just taking off this necklace.”
She gently moved the strap aside, revealing a thin necklace.
Philin laughed awkwardly, seeing Dai looking at him like he was an idiot.
“I wouldn’t stoop to keeping you with my body.” Dai said softly, the corners of her mouth slightly upturned—unclear if it was a smile or mockery.
“But you seem quite interested in my body?”
Dai pointed at her own cheek with her finger.
“Want me to say something to help set the mood? Should I call you big brother, or would you prefer something else?”
“That won’t be necessary.”
Having an absolute beauty who constantly teased him at home.
The scary part was that if he let his guard down even slightly, this girl would succeed.
Then she’d definitely show a smug expression and humiliate him thoroughly!
“This necklace should cover all those fees you mentioned for several months.”
Philin took the valuable necklace, feeling it still carried a trace of Dai’s body warmth.
“Thank you, boss!”
Money could forgive all of the boss’s flaws.
Yahoo!
“I’m going to take a bath. There aren’t any strange holes in the bathroom wall, are there?”
“Of course not!”
This young lady definitely read dirty books at night—how else would she know about such things?
Philin sat alone at the dining table, looking at the things in his house that suddenly didn’t belong to him.
Tonight had been truly exhausting.
In every sense.
Having a client live in his house—he wondered if it was the right decision.
Ever since ending Violet’s contract, Philin had to think more carefully about every step.
Philin had stopped taking new clients.
After these current contracts ended, he planned to quit this line of work entirely.
He’d go to the Royal Capital Academy to study divine arts, then find some small village where no one knew him, and spend his days using divine arts to chop wood, gather herbs, and fight monsters.
Then hire ten maids.
Just a wall away.
The bathroom was filled with steam carrying a girl’s scent.
Dai stood in the water, her wet hair clinging limply to her face.
Complex voices constantly surfaced in her mind, making her body somewhat unsteady.
Dai thought of the looks her relatives gave her when she returned home.
Her lips, still beaded with water droplets, parted slightly as if to sigh.
But in the end, she didn’t.
She couldn’t sigh.
That’s what she thought to herself.
