Chapter 20
Chapter 20: After One Night
Morning light slipped through the gaps in the curtains, illuminating the wooden floor of the living room warmly and brightly. The fireplace still retained last night’s warmth, with occasional weak red glows flickering in the ashes.
Dai rubbed her eyes and came out of her room, her footsteps making the wooden floor creak.
The dining table was covered with a somewhat faded but very clean checkered tablecloth. An orange ceramic teapot was steaming, with several chipped mugs arranged beside it.
Several family photos sat on the mantelpiece, already yellowed with age.
“Morning.”
Philin poked his head out from the kitchen, greeting Dai.
“Good morning.”
Dai clasped her hands together and bowed slightly.
“I’m grateful Mr. Philin didn’t knock on my door for a midnight assault. That must have been difficult for you.”
Dai pulled out a chair and sat down.
“Miss Dai’s charm troubles me greatly, but thinking that letting you sleep well last night was more important than anything, I held back. If Miss Dai allows it tonight, I could come over.”
Dai’s cheeks flushed as she looked at Philin making breakfast in the kitchen.
Strong arms, exceptionally handsome features, and a tight jawline.
Right now he was wearing an apron with cartoon bears while seriously frying eggs with a grave expression.
“Breakfast will be ready soon. You keep staring at me—are you hungry?” Philin felt the gaze from behind and spoke.
“I wasn’t staring at you.”
She immediately looked away.
“You live alone normally, right?” Dai asked.
“That’s right.”
“Then why are there women’s undergarments in my room?”
Undergarments?
Could it be from that client with the rather exaggerated chest size who mischievously gave him her bra as a bonus?
He’d been using the guest room as a storage room.
Last night he’d hastily cleaned up, but apparently hadn’t been thorough enough.
“Ah, that… that’s mine…”
“Did you bring some girl home?”
“Impossible! I’m not that casual with women.”
“Then you prepared them for me?”
“Even more impossible—that would be sexual harassment!”
Philin poked his head out of the kitchen, hastily explaining.
Besides… there was quite a size difference.
Perhaps sensing something, Philin felt Dai’s gaze suddenly turn fierce.
She covered her chest, frowning as she stared at him.
“Sorry for the wait. Today’s bread is a bit hard.” Philin placed the toasted bread on the table, quickly changing the subject.
“But it should be fine with jam. I specially bought this—Lairilia’s jam, your favorite kind.”
Sunlight gradually filled the entire dining table, illuminating the drifting tea fragrance.
Philin rubbed his eyes, feeling like his wooden spoons that cost 1 crown for ten became elegant silver utensils in Dai’s hands.
If this world had livestream shopping, having Dai as a host would definitely make big money.
“Is there something on my face?”
When Philin came back to his senses, those dark green eyes were already very close to his.
“I was just thinking that we’ll always be together in the future, and I’ll be able to see Miss Dai’s face every morning. It’s truly happiness.”
Dai’s eyebrows trembled slightly as she took a sip of black tea.
Always together…
If you knew my inner thoughts about the divine, would you still want to be with me?
Everyone in this world would probably hate me.
Dai closed her eyes, no longer thinking about these things.
Philin forked a small piece of steak and brought it to Dai’s lips, breaking her reverie.
“Huh?”
“Miss Dai, try this.”
Her hand paused, the teacup lightly touching the saucer with a crisp sound.
“What are you doing?”
“Hm? Isn’t this couple training? Your father might have meals with us, and then I’ll feed you in front of him.”
Beneath Philin’s sincere smile lurked a hint of mischief.
Heh heh, don’t think I’m easy to bully—watch my counterattack!
Dai bit her lower lip. She knew Philin was right.
She took a deep breath and finally opened her mouth carefully, accepting Philin’s feeding.
Her ear tips quietly flushed pink, but she still maintained her composure, wiping the corner of her mouth with a napkin.
Dai had to admit that Philin’s performance as a boyfriend was impeccable.
The black tea and jam for breakfast were ones she loved—he must have gotten up early to buy them.
He understood her too well.
Her indifferent father would definitely not be able to tell he was acting.
So the biggest problem with passing the lover inspection was actually her own performance.
To prevent her father from seeing through it, she should work hard to understand him.
…
Saint Andrews Academy.
This ten-year academy was the top-ranked school in Saiva City this year.
Adelina’s Lancher Academy and Saint Andrews Academy had a very small gap between them, so the two schools often alternated in first place.
Thanks to the previous owner paying ten years of tuition in one go, Philin wouldn’t have had any schooling otherwise.
“Student Philin, this is your fifth time being late this month.”
At the Saint Andrews Academy gate.
Student Council President Linda stood in front of Philin with her hands on her hips.
This blonde girl had a delicate face, wore her hair in a high ponytail, revealing a pair of cute little fangs.
Her neat academy uniform bore the student council president’s badge.
“Sorry, sorry. My house is really too far from here.”
Linda wrote Philin’s name in her little notebook without looking at him.
“Don’t you have any more creative excuses? You were late because you made breakfast for some girl, weren’t you?”
“No.”
She’d guessed right, but the girl Linda was thinking of was Violet.
Although Philin and Violet’s contract had ended, the effects lingered.
Philin felt that no matter how he explained, his remaining school life would be spent in the shadow of being Violet’s lapdog.
But it didn’t matter—Siraphel had given him a full 500,000.
Compared to money, these were small matters.
Linda put her notebook back in her bag and looked up at this somewhat famous classmate.
A few days ago, she’d thought Philin and Violet’s farewell was real.
But then she heard Adelina say at the banquet that she’d encountered Philin.
So this guy was still obsessed, going to the banquet to secretly watch Violet.
Detestable men—none of them told the truth.
She thought this while squinting at Philin’s face.
Philin looked like a boy who’d stepped out of an idol magazine—his neat uniform paired with that refined face made it impossible to look away.
He really was handsome.
Did even handsome men like to lie?
Linda coughed twice, remembering sad past events.
Today she was going to monitor Philin closely. If she saw him pestering Violet again, she’d definitely intervene!
“Go in. I’ll report this to Teacher Sophia truthfully.”
Teacher Sophia had always disliked Philin.
Let Teacher Sophia give you a harsh lesson first!
