Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Do You Want to Touch?
St. Andrews Academy – Seal Practice Field.
“Now it’s free practice time. Everyone be careful and stay safe. Dismissed.”
Seal class involved the school providing free seals for students to familiarize themselves with using seals for attacks.
The school generally issued educational seals with very low power, perfect for students to simulate combat scenarios with each other.
But Feilin could never find a practice partner.
Feilin understood—most people weren’t really bad, they just didn’t want to associate with him in this hostile environment to avoid gossip.
He was used to it.
Taking the five seals he’d just received, he went to a secluded spot and used them all up in one go against thin air.
Seals were already much weaker than divine arts, and these being educational seals made each one flash like fireworks when activated.
Five fireworks flickered in this empty corner and then disappeared.
These educational seals couldn’t trigger his lucky draw ability, otherwise he would have saved them for personal use.
Feilin sat on the grass, arms wrapped around his knees, watching students chase and play with each other, listening to the sounds of laughter carried on the wind.
He had to admit, times like this were rather lonely.
He had no friends. Due to his family’s destruction, his former noble friends had been strictly forbidden by their parents from having too much contact with him.
Though being carefree and alone was fine, he occasionally missed having friends.
“Feilin.”
Violetti appeared behind him. She had tied her pink hair into twin tails and wore a white short-sleeved athletic top.
Her light blue athletic shorts revealed a tempting stretch of thigh, white stockings pulled up to her knees, outlining the soft curves of her legs.
Looking at her, Feilin couldn’t help thinking how she managed to look good in every style.
“Violetti, what’s up?”
“Thirsty?”
She produced a bottle of water from behind her back and placed it by Feilin’s feet.
Violetti also knelt beside Feilin, bringing with her the scent of a young girl.
With the wind’s help, Violetti’s hair brushed reluctantly against Feilin’s cheek.
The sky was blue, the breeze just right.
The two sat on the grass, watching the distant boys immersed in their happiness.
Seeing that Feilin hadn’t touched the water bottle, Violetti wondered what she should say next.
In the past, when she didn’t accept things Feilin gave her, he never repeatedly insisted she take them.
So she wouldn’t mention it either, to avoid making Feilin think she was annoying.
Feilin scooted a bit further from Violetti.
“Violetti, did Teacher Sophia say something to you last night?”
“Yes. How did you know?”
Given her dramatic overnight change, someone must have given her advice.
Violetti had no friends and no one to confide in.
So it was most likely Teacher Sophia.
“She didn’t say anything strange, did she?”
“No.” Violetti shook her head, her hair swaying beautifully.
Sophia, you actually dare to be someone else’s love advisor.
Your own love life is a complete mess—don’t mislead Violetti!
“Feilin, do you hate me?”
“No.”
Violetti hugged her legs, resting her head on her knees.
“But you seem to be avoiding me.”
The girl pouted, her gaze fixed on the small grass swaying in the wind on the ground.
“I just think we should maintain some distance. After all, this kind of thing easily becomes gossip.”
“I don’t care.”
I care, and most importantly, your father cares too.
But Feilin couldn’t say that out loud—the contract stipulated he couldn’t reveal its contents to Violetti.
Feilin didn’t answer Violetti’s question. Cold treatment was best.
If this young lady saw no reaction from him after a few days, she might give up.
The sun was both a blessing and an annoyance.
The prolonged outdoor activity had covered Violetti’s flushed face with a thin layer of sweat, dampening the fine hair on her face.
Violetti was getting thirsty.
The water she’d brought was already placed by Feilin’s feet. A gift given couldn’t be taken back.
“Feilin, have a sip.”
Feilin turned to see Violetti looking at him expectantly with those beautiful amber eyes.
He felt like if he didn’t drink the water Violetti had given him, he’d immediately ascend to face divine judgment.
“I’m not thirsty right now.” Feilin refused.
“But if you don’t drink it, I’ll have to throw this bottle away.”
“Eh, why? If I don’t drink it, you could take it back.”
“The Seraphel family cannot take back gifts once given.”
There was actually such a family rule?
Feilin hesitated. Wasting resources really wasn’t good.
But he still didn’t want too much contact with Violetti.
“I’ll pay you.” Violetti pulled out her pink unicorn wallet.
“Eh, suddenly I’m feeling really thirsty.”
Feilin wasn’t doing it for money—he just happened to be thirsty.
He took a sip, screwed the cap back on, and placed the bottle back by his feet.
This really was the last time. Damn capitalism!
How had he become so obsessed with money that his body had strange reactions just hearing about it?
Tragic—he’d become a slave to capital.
Violetti’s gaze fixed on the water bottle, her toes lightly tapping together.
“Feilin, do you want more?”
“Not drinking anymore for now.”
“Then can I have a sip?”
?
??
Feilin stared wide-eyed at Violetti. What was this young lady trying to do?
Violetti’s thinking was simple.
Though gifts given couldn’t be taken back, if Feilin had drunk from it and then didn’t need it anymore, the gift would essentially be discarded after use, so she could have a sip too.
“Violetti, this kind of thing isn’t really appropriate.”
“Thank you.”
Violetti reached out and took the water bottle with both hands.
When she used to refuse Feilin’s offers, she’d often say “this isn’t really appropriate,” but Feilin never listened.
So “this isn’t really appropriate” must mean “though it’s not great, it’s not impossible” in his eyes.
Feilin never expected the boomerang would hit him one day.
She tilted her neck back, sipping the water in small mouthfuls.
The sweet water flowing down her parched throat made Violetti close her eyes contentedly, unconsciously swaying her feet left and right.
Feilin’s gaze was shamefully drawn once again to Violetti’s feet, which were like works of art.
Damn it, they really were beautiful.
Feet wrapped in white stockings, though not showing bare skin, had a completely different kind of beauty. Compared to the direct impact of bare legs, this subtle beauty made one want to peel away the covering to see what wonders lay beneath.
Violetti also noticed Feilin’s gaze falling on her feet again. Come to think of it, he’d stared at her feet during their last tutoring session too.
She didn’t understand what was so interesting about her feet.
But if Feilin liked them, there must be a reason.
She buried her head in her thighs, her cheeks burning and her body stiffening.
Violetti bit her lip, her eyes growing moist.
“Feilin, do you want to touch my feet?”
