Chapter 44
Chapter 44: The Feeling of Living Off Someone Else
After the school bell rang, Feilin packed up the books on his desk.
He had seriously studied for the entire day today.
Tonight was Adelina’s service time, and he’d have to take a car to get there later.
He wondered what this young lady would have him do tonight.
Honestly, he was getting a bit tired of those daily confessions.
But since Adelina was the boss, he’d just obediently take the money and do the work.
Feilin put his backpack on and was about to leave when the communication seal rang.
“Feilin, you don’t need to come over tonight. I happen to be going to your school.”
Adelina’s message came through, making Feilin raise an eyebrow.
Serve her at school?
Feilin sat back down and pondered how to deal with Adelina at school.
She certainly wouldn’t want to expose this relationship in public either, so he should keep some distance first and ask her privately later.
But she probably wouldn’t do anything too excessive at school, so he could slack off today.
“Feilin, aren’t you leaving yet?”
Violetti stood outside the window, staring at Feilin.
Damn, he’d forgotten about her.
“Violetti, I still have some things to do. You go ahead. Besides, you don’t need to wait for me to leave together—we don’t go the same way.”
Violetti stood in place as if she hadn’t heard.
Before, Feilin would always escort her to the school gate, so she should do the same thing.
“I’m not in a hurry.”
But I am.
Feilin could already imagine Adelina sitting in a car heading this way.
If those two met here, he’d be in trouble.
“Violetti, if you go home too late, your father will worry. You should go home first, no need to wait for me.”
“Are you waiting for Bernice? Do you want to look at her chest again?”
“No! And I never looked at her chest!”
Feilin was somewhat speechless. How could she say such things with that cold expression?
“Then I’m not waiting for you either.”
“Then what are you doing standing here?”
Violetti blinked and tilted her head.
“I’m looking at the scenery.”
Feilin felt that Violetti had mastered the essence of being a professional bootlicker—shamelessly making such lame excuses.
Several girls ran past behind Violetti in the corridor.
“Lady Adelina is here! Do you want to go see?”
“Really? Where is she?”
“She just entered the front gate. She looks super beautiful today!”
Damn, Adelina had already arrived.
Feilin looked up at Violetti, who quickly turned her head slightly away, pretending not to look at him.
This young lady was really planning to stick it out with him to the end.
He should have pretended to leave school earlier, sent Violetti away, then snuck back.
It was too late now. Going out would definitely be seen by Adelina at the school gate.
If she saw him with Violetti, she might immediately drag him home for some proper discipline.
“Feilin, do you want to eat together tomorrow?”
“No, we agreed today was the last time.”
“If we can eat together tomorrow, I’ll need to go home early to prepare.”
Feilin looked at Violetti. Her face still showed no expression, and the sunset glow looked beautiful on her.
This girl is threatening me, isn’t she?
‘If we eat together tomorrow, I can leave early.’ She must be threatening me like this, right?
Damn, I didn’t expect Violetti to evolve so quickly.
Am I, Feilin, the type of person who gives in to threats?
“Fine! We’ll eat together tomorrow, but it’s really the last time. It’s not good for anyone if people see us walking so close.”
I just still want to see Violetti’s under-the-table antics—it’s not like I gave in to threats.
“Mm-hmm!”
The corners of Violetti’s mouth showed a triumphant smile. She put her hands behind her back and left on her tiptoes.
Tomorrow Feilin could eat with her again.
How nice.
She planned to try making food for Feilin too, just like how Feilin used to bring her lunch every day.
When he couldn’t live without her lunch boxes someday, he would actively return to her side.
Violetti was in a pretty good mood. She hummed a little tune as she walked downstairs.
At the corner, she saw that rose-tea colored hair.
“Miss Violetti, long time no see.”
Adelina hadn’t expected to meet her here either. She nodded toward Violetti.
“Adelina.” Violetti returned the greeting. She suddenly wondered if Feilin was waiting for Adelina.
Probably not.
At her own graduation banquet, Violetti had discovered that Adelina actually had a crush on Feilin.
Although Adelina really liked Feilin, Feilin didn’t seem to have good feelings toward her.
“Are you here to find Feilin?”
Adelina hadn’t expected Violetti to say this, and her heart skipped a beat.
“I’m here to handle matters regarding the joint school festival between the two schools. Of course, I’m also here to find Feilin—he’s my assistant.”
“Assistant?”
“Yes, for the convenience of communication between the two schools, we mutually assigned volunteer assistants. What a coincidence that Feilin is my assistant.”
When Adelina said this, she lifted her chin slightly with some pride.
Violetti, seeing me so close to Feilin, you must be very upset, right?
I’ve taken away Feilin, who used to like you.
“Oh.” Violetti nodded without any reaction.
“Eh, don’t you want to say something?”
Adelina still wanted to see Violetti’s unwilling expression.
“Say what?”
Violetti felt no jealousy toward Adelina in her heart, only sympathy. To get close to Feilin, she used such obvious methods. A girl in the midst of unrequited love was actually so humble.
“Nothing. Then I’ll go find Feilin first. Goodbye, Miss Violetti.”
Adelina was somewhat depressed. The expression she’d fantasized seeing on Violetti didn’t appear, and the way she looked at her seemed strange.
She stood at the corner, fixing her hair for the sixth time.
She was somehow a bit nervous…
After confirming that her appearance was perfect, Adelina took a deep breath and pushed open the door to Feilin’s classroom.
Only Feilin was in the classroom, and Adelina spotted him immediately.
“Feilin, sorry for not telling you in advance that I was coming.”
Adelina entered the classroom and couldn’t help looking around.
So this was the place where Feilin usually spent his time?
She worried that her morning decision to arrange for Feilin to become a volunteer would make him angry, so she lowered her head slightly, her hands behind her back gripping each other tightly.
“Lady Adelina is giving me a surprise! I can’t believe I get to see you at school.”
Fortunately, Feilin didn’t seem angry.
“About this morning’s matter—I didn’t think it through properly.” Adelina swayed gently, pressing her lips together, her neck slightly flushed.
From kindergarten until now, Adelina had never made a single mistake, let alone apologized.
This was her first time in ten years.
“I thought about it, and I was a bit out of line. How about this—you can be my assistant just during my contract hours. You don’t need to come other times, but of course the benefits and allowances remain the same.”
Essentially getting paid twice for one job, but Adelina didn’t care about the money.
She just wanted to give Feilin an excuse to let him express his feelings using the contract as justification.
“I apologize for my behavior. If you’re unhappy, I can also fulfill one of your requests.”
When Adelina said this, her eyelashes fluttered quickly. This time, even if Feilin made a slightly excessive request, it would be fine…
The setting sun streamed through the gap between them, bathing Adelina’s face in a soft golden glow.
That light created a dreamy halo around her delicate features, like the gentlest makeup bestowed by heaven.
Adelina’s blue-gray eyes were slightly moist, like jewels veiled in a thin mist, not daring to look directly into Feilin’s eyes.
In the quiet classroom, Adelina could hear her own heartbeat getting louder. She gripped her skirt tightly, waiting for the response from the young man in front of her.
Looking at Adelina, who seemed to be confessing, Feilin could barely close his mouth.
Is this what it feels like to live off someone else?
