Chapter 49
Chapter 49: Homholt
Violette sat on a bench watching the crowds on Homholt Street. She was tired.
Each lamp cast light of different colors, weaving dreamlike patterns in the night.
Homholt nights were always beautiful, like an endless feast.
Violette held the ugly caterpillar plush Feilin had chosen a few days ago.
Although she had refused his gift last time, Violette couldn’t help wanting to secretly take it home.
She had forgotten the location of that toy store, spending nearly two hours searching alone before finding it.
Violette rubbed her feet. She wore light pink leather shoes with white lace socks.
When could she go shopping with Feilin again?
After tomorrow’s dungeon expedition, Feilin might thank her and reward her by shopping together.
The girl’s cold expression showed a barely perceptible smile.
Homholt’s commercial district was huge, making it hard to encounter acquaintances.
But fate is unpredictable.
At another part of Homholt commercial street, two very eye-catching people were present.
Both were outstanding-looking, attracting everyone’s attention in the store.
But seeing their somewhat unnatural interaction, people would think these two must be having an argument.
“Feilin, won’t you choose something more sexy for couple’s pajamas?”
Feilin pointed at pajamas with little bears, his face dark.
Though her emerald pupils showed divine radiance, Daisy’s mouth spoke completely opposite words.
Her black hair was elegantly pinned in a bun with a silver hairpin.
Today Daisy wore a silk black shirt with a slightly open collar, revealing a section of pale collarbone.
To handle the couple inspection, Daisy suggested at least arranging the room to look like two people actually lived together, not pretending.
So they came to Homholt commercial street to select bedroom items.
“How sexy could this kind of couple pajamas be?”
This young lady’s brain must be broken from reading too many inappropriate books.
“Aren’t there designs convenient for doing things?”
Convenient for doing what?
Feilin didn’t turn to look at Daisy. His body remained stiffly in place while frantically counting to three in his mind.
If he showed any sign of starting to fantasize, this young lady would definitely mock him.
Damn it!
“Feilin, here’s a set of pajamas convenient for doing things. I’ll try them on and see if you like them.”
?
Feilin blinked frantically.
Imagining Daisy’s perfectly rational face wearing such revealing contrasting clothes, he couldn’t help swallowing.
He turned his head at an extremely small frequency.
Just one glance! Just one glance!
Daisy held a form-fitting silk nightgown that wasn’t as revealing as imagined.
“Hmm? You look disappointed. Is it because I’m holding clothes convenient for housework, not the kind convenient for those activities you imagined? How cute, that expression.”
Feilin looked at Daisy covering her mouth and giggling. His fists clenched.
This bad woman!
“Do you want to go to the bathroom and relax?”
“I don’t need to!”
Before he knew it, Feilin was carrying many things.
This was a young lady’s purchasing power.
Using the excuse that Feilin’s room’s bedding and decorations were too shabby, Daisy spent 10,000 crowns upgrading everything from sheets to pillows.
“If I lived in such a shabby room, probably no one would believe it,” Daisy said.
Feilin wouldn’t be sad about Daisy’s complaints. The bedding he carried was obviously high-quality goods.
After the inspection ended, these things would definitely be his.
Another freebie.
“By the way, is the person inspecting us close to Miss Daisy?”
“I’m not that familiar with her, haven’t met many times. Probably a strict person.”
“Does she like anything?”
“Want to bribe her? Embarrassingly, she’s probably richer than both of us now.”
Daisy saw through Feilin’s little scheme immediately.
“Besides, are you so unconfident about us pretending to be a couple? I think we’re quite like lovers.”
Where’s the resemblance? I obviously look like a lackey accompanying the boss shopping.
“Eh, you don’t think we’re alike?” Daisy saw Feilin’s mouth twitch slightly and tilted her head.
She looked at herself in the mirror. Though standing with Feilin, her expression and posture indeed had nothing to do with lovers.
Then…
Feilin felt his arm being pulled. Daisy reached out and hooked his arm.
“How about this?”
Though expression and body were still somewhat stiff, overall it was passable.
It would be even better if the inspector was blind.
Seeing the criticism in Feilin’s eyes, Daisy simply closed her eyes and leaned her entire body against Feilin.
“Ow ow ow, Miss Daisy, don’t grip my arm so hard.”
“Sorry sorry!”
What choice did she have!
This was her first time being so close to a man, and pretending to be a couple at that.
“Actually couples come in many types. Some like intimate closeness, others prefer maintaining distance. We don’t have to stick together – as long as we love each other spiritually.”
Daisy nodded thoughtfully, considering what spiritual love meant.
Did it mean psychologically truly considering the other person as a lover?
Daisy took several deep breaths, watching Feilin seriously selecting couple pajamas for both of them.
Oh no, she was actually starting to feel that way.
“Miss Daisy, I’ll buy you some water.”
Feilin saw Daisy lick her lips, thinking she was thirsty, so he stored their things in the shop and went out to buy water.
Homholt’s breeze carried various scents.
Feilin bought two bottles of water from a nearby store, one being Daisy’s favorite peach flavor.
Feilin looked at the water thinking: If they were really lovers, one bottle would be enough.
But Miss Daisy definitely wouldn’t want to share.
He wondered who was coming to inspect them, and how formidable they were.
If they saw through his and Daisy’s fake couple act at a glance, would they do something terrible to him?
Just as Feilin was about to return, he smelled a familiar scent.
That cherry blossom-like fragrance was Violette’s custom perfume.
“Feilin, good evening.”
Violette hid the caterpillar plush behind her back, greeting Feilin expressionlessly.
“Violette, you’re here.”
Feilin’s face was somewhat awkward, unnaturally scratching his head.
Was he cursed by Homholt? He’d never come to this damned place again.
