Chapter 45 – The Divine Son’s World
“Phew, I thought Princess Felicia was going to have an upset,” John wiped away sweat. “As expected of the Zhuosha family’s Divine Maiden Domain – that physical resistance is just unbeatable.”
“…You can’t see it?” Hearing John’s comment, Dilin asked.
“Huh? Can’t see what? What are you talking about?”
“Never mind.” Dilin shook his head and clutched the Golden Butterfly in his arms.
Perhaps only he and Felicia on the field knew that this had nothing to do with physical resistance.
As a Divine Maiden, would Brin not know that the Zhuosha family’s Divine Maiden Domain focused on physical resistance?
Of course he knew, but he still chose to use physical attacks in this situation because he was confident in his own Divine Maiden Domain. He believed his five-times backstab could decide the victory, and even if it couldn’t, it could still cause considerable trouble for his opponent.
What he hadn’t expected was that Felicia emerged completely unscathed, not even staggering. His sword strike was like a toothpick stabbing a boulder – nothing happened at all.
But the other spectators didn’t know this. They all thought Felicia’s physical resistance was strong enough to withstand Brin’s backstab. In reality, what blocked Brin’s backstab wasn’t physical resistance, but the effect derived from her domain.
To be fair, Brin wasn’t weak – he had both tactics and combat ability. He was just unlucky to encounter someone who was cheating.
So when he heard people around him saying Brin was an idiot for trying to use physical attacks to break through White Glass armor, Dilin just smiled. If these keyboard warriors went up there, they probably would have been backstabbed by Brin before they even saw him coming.
Dilin finally understood why an excellent Divine Son was so important to a team. Take this time – not all Divine Sons could see through Felicia’s Divine Maiden Domain. They were all left in the dark like clueless fools, while only Dilin and Felicia, the person involved, understood what had really happened.
“As expected, a match with no suspense.”
“If you knew it had no suspense, why did you drag me here to watch?” Dilin glanced at John.
“Hey hey, you think I brought you here to watch the match? What decent person seriously watches matches?” John said with a look of disdain. “I guarantee that eighty percent of the people here didn’t come to watch the match. As for what they came to see… I won’t spell it out, but everyone knows.”
As he spoke, John also glanced at that beautiful sight on the arena.
Indeed, dressed like that for battle, the match wasn’t very exciting, but the fan service was abundant.
Everyone in attendance must have gotten an ‘eyeful.’
Sure enough, as John had said, after the silver-armored knight princess bowed to her defeated opponent and left the field, the audience clearly thinned out considerably.
What drew people’s attention was always beautiful girls. Everyone came to see their idol – once the idol left, the concert was over. Why stick around?
“Let’s go.” John yawned and stood up, but found Dilin sitting motionless in his seat, immediately puzzled. “Weren’t you just complaining about wanting to leave? Now that the main event is over, you don’t want to go?”
“Since we’re already here.” Dilin sat firmly in his seat and grabbed John’s sleeve. “Let’s keep watching.”
“You’re not getting addicted to this, are you? I should warn you, the upcoming matches don’t have any female Divine Maidens – it’s all buff guys beating each other up.”
“It’s fine.” Having discovered the power of his Legendary Divine Analysis, Dilin was curious to test it further.
“Ugh, what’s fun about watching a bunch of big men fight? Women fighting is much more interesting.” John pursed his lips. “Let’s go, let’s go. Your Astrid’s match is this afternoon… Ow!”
John, who got his waist pinched for running his mouth, sat back down reluctantly, covering his waist with a somewhat resentful look.
“I say, why are you acting like a woman, pinching people’s waists?”
“Shut up.” Dilin didn’t even look at him.
Unlike the first match’s absolute domination, the next several matches saw both sides trading back and forth. Cases like Felicia and Astrid were just exceptions – most new Divine Maidens were fairly evenly matched.
With the excellent matchmaking system, probably only poor Brin got hurt.
Despite having decent skills, losing so thoroughly and embarrassingly would make finding a team difficult in the future.
The morning matches ended, and Dilin and John walked toward the cafeteria.
“The second match this afternoon is Astrid’s. Tsk tsk, Felicia and Astrid are scheduled for the same day. Buddy, I guarantee Felicia will definitely come watch this afternoon.”
“Why?” Dilin, who was thinking about Divine Maiden Domain-related matters, didn’t think too deeply about John’s words.
“Hey, didn’t I tell you? Felicia is pursuing Astrid, even wrote her love letters. This is something everyone at the academy knows.”
“Mm.” Dilin nodded, musing. “Indeed, Divine Maiden Domains generally have one or several domain effects in addition to the standard four resistance functions.”
“What Divine Maiden Domain? What are you talking about? Are we discussing the same thing?”
“Hm? …What did you just say?” Dilin looked up.
“…Are you really indifferent or just pretending? You seriously don’t care?”
“After all, you used to… This isn’t me making stuff up, right?”
“The past is the past. She and I are impossible.” Dilin’s tone was completely flat.
“True, the chances of you two working out are pretty low. Letting go at the right time is a wise choice, but aren’t you being a bit too carefree about it?” John still didn’t understand.
“You almost got that moon elf princess’s favor by accident. That’s an elf we’re talking about – when they give their heart, it’s for life. No one can stop that.”
“So? Should I be beating my chest in anguish and grief to seem normal?”
“Uh… I guess that wouldn’t help either.”
“Thanks for caring more about this than I do.” Dilin gave John a look. “Instead of thinking about this stuff, why not think about what to eat for lunch?”
“You… fine, seeing that you’ve really let go, I’m relieved.” John sighed.
“Idiot.” Dilin said quietly. “Making such unnecessary trouble.”
“Tsk tsk, all unknown names except for Astrid.”
“What, you’re still going to watch matches this afternoon?”
“Of course I’m going. How could I not? And I guarantee this afternoon will be packed. Felicia and Astrid, two of the academy’s rising stars, will both be there. Won’t that draw a crowd?”
“Mm, you go ahead. I won’t be going.”
“Huh? …Tch, such a killjoy.” John looked at the schedule repeatedly. “More old guys again… Wait, hold on.”
“Third match, Erin vs. Tilisa? Oh oh, women fighting! Now I’m interested!” John perked up immediately.
“Speaking of which, Tilisa? That name sounds unfamiliar. Never heard of her. From the name, she should be a female Divine Maiden. Wonder if she’s good-looking…” John seemed to have discovered a new world.
Dilin beside him said nothing.
