Chapter 20
Chapter 20: First Let Me Savor Your Body
When Sean and Cynthia arrived at the scene, the fire had already spread, roaring flames devouring the surrounding buildings while the acrid smell of burning filled the air.
The streets were littered with broken rubble and burning debris—a complete mess.
In the distance, a figure with a twisted form, shrouded in black mist, was frantically attacking the surrounding buildings while letting out deep, guttural roars.
Several female mages had joined forces, trying to stop the demon’s destruction.
They waved their staffs, releasing various spells, barely managing to suppress the demon’s attacks and prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
“You’ve done well. Step back now—leave this to me.”
Seeing the situation, Cynthia strode forward quickly, her voice calm and authoritative.
The female mages looked at Cynthia with awe on their faces and stepped aside one after another. Cynthia was the Scarlet Flame Saint, powerful in strength—dealing with a single demon was naturally no problem for her. They followed orders and quickly evacuated the scene.
Soon, only Cynthia and Sean remained in the area.
“Sean, stay at a safe distance. Don’t come close—I’ll handle it.”
To avoid drawing attention, Cynthia hadn’t made much contact with Sean. She turned to him and said.
“Yes.”
Sean nodded and stepped aside, his gaze fixed intently on Cynthia and the demon.
Cynthia drew the long sword from her waist. With a thought, blazing flames instantly ignited along the blade. Her red hair fluttered in the firelight, and her entire being seemed like a burning flame—imposing and magnificent.
The demon seemed to sense the threat and let out a low growl, lunging toward Cynthia.
Cynthia’s figure flashed, easily avoiding the demon’s attack.
Her movements were graceful and swift, the Scarlet Flame sword in her hand tracing a searing arc as it struck directly at the demon’s vital points.
The demon was hit by the flames and let out a pained shriek. The black mist around its body was burned by the fire and partially dissipated.
However, Cynthia soon discovered that this demon was somewhat different from the ones she had encountered before.
Though its attacks were violent, there was a strange pattern in its movements, as if it still retained some consciousness. Not only that, but while its mental power had collapsed, the way it collapsed seemed different from ordinary demons.
Cynthia frowned, feeling uneasy.
Sean observed the battle carefully from the side.
According to this world’s lore, demons were transformed from mages whose mental power had collapsed, and mental power collapse usually occurred when large amounts of magic were used, leading to mental exhaustion without timely use of crystal elixirs or other soothing measures.
But as far as Sean knew, the vast majority of those who had transformed into demons in the past were combat personnel. There were no circumstances in residential areas where ordinary people would use magic that could exhaust their mental power. Why would an ordinary resident suddenly transform into a demon?
Various possibilities flashed through Sean’s mind, but he couldn’t reach a conclusion for the moment.
Just then, Cynthia had found the demon’s weakness, and the Scarlet Flame sword pierced straight into the demon’s chest.
The demon let out a shrill scream, the black mist around its body began to dissipate rapidly, and it finally collapsed to the ground, becoming an ordinary corpse.
Cynthia sheathed her sword and walked to the demon’s corpse, observing carefully.
After the black mist dispersed, the demon’s true appearance was revealed—an ordinary woman who looked unremarkable.
“Isn’t this Mary from the street corner? How did she become a demon?”
Residents from the surrounding area also gathered around, and someone recognized her, saying in surprise.
Cynthia frowned, her confusion deepening.
She turned to look at Sean and found him also frowning, seemingly pondering the same question.
At this moment, Irene arrived with a team of knights.
She saw Cynthia and Sean standing together, and a flash of displeasure crossed her eyes, though she quickly concealed it.
“Irene, arrange the cleanup of the battlefield and repairs to the residential area. Restore order as quickly as possible.”
Cynthia said to Irene.
Irene nodded and departed to carry out the orders.
Cynthia couldn’t wait to leave the scene with Sean.
Her body had grown accustomed to Sean’s mental soothing. The battle just now had consumed considerable mental power, and at this moment she urgently needed Sean’s comfort.
The scene shifted to Cynthia’s room.
After the two returned to the room, Cynthia immediately closed the door and forcefully pushed Sean down onto the sofa.
Before Sean could react, Cynthia was already straddling him, her arms wrapped around his neck, her head leaning close as her nose greedily inhaled his scent, enjoying the warm current flowing from him, her face showing an expression of utter contentment.
Heart-shaped patterns even appeared in her eyes—clearly she was already immersed in the mental soothing Sean provided.
Though Sean was caught off guard by Cynthia’s actions, he didn’t lose his reason.
He noticed that while this Flame Saint was immersed in mental soothing, her eyes still retained a trace of clarity.
“Sean, hold me.”
Cynthia’s eyes were somewhat hazy as she nuzzled against Sean’s chest, her ruby-like beautiful eyes gazing at him.
Sean looked at the beautiful girl before him, his heart pounding like a drum in his chest.
His fingers trembled slightly. When his fingertips touched Cynthia’s waist, it felt as if an electric current shot up his arm to his heart.
Cynthia’s waist was slender and soft. Through the thin fabric of her uniform, he could feel the warmth and smoothness of her skin.
Sean finally just gently placed his hands there. With such softness in his arms, he didn’t dare make any intimate moves—maintaining composure was most important.
“Hold me tighter.”
However, Sean’s behavior didn’t satisfy Cynthia. Her gaze stared directly at Sean, as if observing his every subtle reaction.
Sean’s face instantly flushed red. He had no choice but to take a deep breath, trying to steady his trembling hands, not daring to look up at Cynthia.
His fingers gently grasped Cynthia’s waist, slowly sliding downward, feeling the delicate texture of her skin. His heart raced as if it would leap from his chest, finally pulling this saint completely into his embrace.
This action, ordinary between lovers, seemed to Sean like crossing an impossible chasm.
“Mm…”
This feeling of being enveloped made Cynthia unable to suppress a soft hum.
If this continued, Sean felt he would fall into the same irreversible situation as before, so he pretended to think and took the opportunity to speak.
“Lady Cynthia, something was very wrong with this demon. Why would a demon appear in a residential area? This doesn’t make sense.”
Sure enough, Cynthia’s movements paused slightly as she looked up at Sean.
Her face still bore a pleased expression, but her eyes showed more thoughtfulness.
“I also found it strange. Though that demon’s mental power had collapsed, it was somewhat different from the demons I’ve encountered before. I just can’t say exactly what was odd about it.”
Cynthia pressed her cheek against Sean’s chest, speaking in a low voice.
“Demons are usually transformed from mages whose mental power collapsed from overuse, but Mary was just an ordinary resident with no opportunity to use large amounts of magic. Why would her mental power collapse? I think there must be some reason behind this.”
Seeing that Cynthia’s movements had become much more restrained, Sean continued with his analysis.
Cynthia’s brow furrowed slightly as she clearly pondered this problem.
Her fingers gently caressed Sean’s cheek as she spoke softly.
“You’re right. This matter can’t just end here. Tomorrow I’ll personally investigate the cause of the incident, and you’ll come with me then.”
“Yes.”
Sean felt relieved that Cynthia seemed to have regained some of her reason.
“However…”
Cynthia lowered her head and gently left a mark on Sean’s neck, then looked up with the corners of her mouth slowly curving upward.
“Now isn’t the time to discuss this. First, let me properly savor your body.”
