Chapter 22
Chapter 22: Sean Had Many Things to Consider
After Sean and Cynthia finished breakfast, the two prepared to head to the residential area where yesterday’s demon incident had occurred to investigate.
Last night, Sean’s analysis made Cynthia realize that there might be a larger conspiracy hidden behind this incident—far from being as simple as it appeared on the surface. Combined with the trap she had fallen into during the previous beast disaster, all of this might be someone trying to plot against her, so she decided to personally investigate the scene.
Sean, as her special assistant, would naturally accompany her.
Through these two incident analyses, Cynthia had gradually gained a new understanding of Sean. This seemingly harmless young man was not just a mental power soothing tool with a special constitution—his observational skills were also quite sharp. Perhaps he could see things she had overlooked.
Just as the two stepped out the door, they ran into Irene, who was hurrying toward them.
Irene held a thick report in her hands, her face showing some fatigue, but her eyes sparkled with excitement.
To impress Cynthia, she had stayed up all night handling the demon incident and organized a detailed report.
Irene had originally fantasized that Cynthia would be impressed with her, but when she saw Sean emerging from Cynthia’s residence, the smile on her face instantly froze, and even her thoughts of seeking praise vanished without a trace.
Her pupils contracted sharply, and a wave of indescribable shock and anger surged in her heart.
Irene had originally thought that last night when Cynthia took Sean home was just a temporary whim—just playing around. From what she knew, many nobles did such things. But now, Sean was coming out of Cynthia’s house first thing in the morning. What did this mean? Had they spent the night together?
What else could happen when a man and woman were alone together?
For a moment, Irene’s heart felt like it had fallen into an ice cellar. This bastard actually dared to defile her most admired Lady Cynthia.
When Sean saw Irene, embarrassment flashed across his face too.
“Good morning, Miss Irene.”
He could clearly feel the intense hostility in Irene’s eyes, as if she wanted to devour him alive. He could only steel himself and force out a smile, politely greeting her.
Irene didn’t acknowledge Sean’s greeting. Instead, she glared at him fiercely, as if warning him not to get too cocky.
“Lady Cynthia, this is the detailed report from last night’s demon incident. I’ve organized everything.”
She quickly walked up to Cynthia and handed over the report, her tone urgent.
“Take a look. If there are any problems, let me know.”
Cynthia took the report and casually flipped through a few pages before handing it to Sean, saying flatly.
Seeing this scene, Irene felt even more displeased.
She had originally thought Cynthia would personally review her report, but instead she casually handed it to Sean.
This made her feel that her efforts were being ignored, and the jealousy and anger in her heart grew stronger.
“Irene, today Sean and I are going to investigate the site of last night’s demon incident. I’m leaving all the knight training to you.”
Cynthia didn’t notice Irene’s emotional changes—or simply didn’t care. She turned to Irene and said.
Hearing this, Irene’s heart sank.
“Lady Cynthia, did you and Sean… spend the night together?”
After hesitating for a few seconds, she finally couldn’t help but ask.
Her voice trembled slightly, as if she was desperately trying to suppress her emotions.
She felt that her original position had been stolen by this uninvited Sean. Usually, she was the one who accompanied Cynthia on such investigative tasks. This bastard’s appearance made her feel that her existence had become dispensable.
“Miss Irene, you’re mistaken. Last night, Lady Cynthia and I were just discussing and analyzing the demon incident. It got too late, so Lady Cynthia kindly let me stay over. I slept on the sofa.”
Hearing Irene’s question, Sean’s heart jumped, and he quickly explained.
His tone carried urgency as he tried to ease Irene’s mind while also wanting Cynthia to know that he hadn’t taken advantage of the situation last night.
After all, Sean understood Cynthia’s personality. If she returned to her usual cold state and learned that she had shared a bed with a man last night, she might fly into a rage.
“When did you go sleep on the sofa? Didn’t we sleep together in bed last night?”
However, just as Sean finished speaking, Cynthia, who was walking ahead, suddenly turned around and looked at him with confusion.
Sean’s face instantly went pale, and fine beads of cold sweat appeared on his forehead.
He hadn’t expected Cynthia to so bluntly reveal what happened last night. This completely disrupted his plan. He opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say, only able to stand there awkwardly.
Hearing Cynthia’s words, Irene was thunderstruck, frozen in place as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her head.
She had originally wanted to say something, like how Sean didn’t seem like a good person and that Lady Cynthia shouldn’t be deceived by male beauty, but Cynthia mercilessly cut her off.
“Irene, I’ll state this one final time: Sean is my special assistant and only follows my orders.”
Cynthia’s tone carried unquestionable authority. She had spoken so directly about last night’s events to let everyone know that Sean was her personal property.
“You just need to fulfill your duties as a deputy. Don’t interfere in my affairs—I have my own plans for everything.”
Her gaze was cold and sharp, as if warning Irene not to overstep her bounds.
“Yes, Lady Cynthia. I understand.”
Overwhelmed by Cynthia’s presence, Irene could only lower her head and force out a response.
Though she said this, her heart was full of unwillingness and anger.
Irene looked at Sean’s retreating figure, her fists clenched tightly, nails digging deep into her palms, yet feeling no pain. She silently swore to find a way to deal with this bastard and reclaim her place in Cynthia’s heart.
“Let’s go.”
Cynthia paid no more attention to Irene and turned to continue walking forward with Sean.
Sean followed behind Cynthia. He glanced back at Irene from the corner of his eye, his heart filled with complex emotions.
This deputy’s hostility toward him seemed to be escalating, and she might take action soon.
This kind of sick possessiveness—viewing an idol as the only one and believing no one but themselves deserved to stand beside that idol—Sean had seen in another timeline. It could lead to serious consequences.
He pondered briefly. Now he had to include Irene in his plans too.
“It seems Miss Irene doesn’t like me very much.”
So Sean walked beside Cynthia, pretending to smile wryly and scratch his face, making the classic manipulative statement from movies and TV shows.
“She’s always disliked men, and you’re a temporary addition, so it’s normal for her to have complaints.”
Contrary to Sean’s expectations, Cynthia saw through everything more clearly than anyone. She continued:
“I’ll handle this when I have time. You don’t need to worry. Sean, from now on you only need to consider how to please me.”
