Chapter 25
Chapter 25: You’re Not Hiding Anything from Me, Are You?
Sean stood before the altar in the basement, his gaze fixed on the Ouroboros pattern, his mind filled with confusion.
He turned to look at Heracles and couldn’t help asking, “Lady Heracles, what exactly is this Ouroboros cult?”
“The Ouroboros cult was an evil organization that emerged a hundred years ago. They attempted to overthrow the Church of Light and establish a new world order. They used dark magic and even researched forbidden demon transformation techniques, once threatening the rule of the Holy Temple of Light.”
Heracles looked at him, complex emotions flashing in her eyes. She seemed to hesitate for a moment, then slowly spoke, though her tone was very heavy.
“It took the combined efforts of the twelve saints at that time to finally destroy them. Since then, the Ouroboros cult has disappeared without a trace. I never expected to see their symbol again today.”
Cynthia added from the side, her expression still not looking good.
“I see.”
Sean, having heard the explanation from the two saints, fell into thought.
In these saints’ eyes, did overthrowing the Church of Light equal destroying the world?
Of course, he could understand this way of thinking.
After all, a thousand years ago, under the goddess’s leadership, the Church of Light had saved humanity from the brink of extinction from the threat of magical beasts, truly representing the side of justice and salvation.
However, after a thousand years of development, many problems had emerged within the Church of Light. It could even be said that even the goddess couldn’t erase humanity’s fundamental flaws, leading to a world now filled with injustice and oppression.
“Since this demon incident involves the Ouroboros cult, I must immediately notify the higher-ups of the Holy Temple of Light. You two stay here and guard this place until I return.”
Heracles said to Cynthia and Sean.
Cynthia nodded and watched Heracles leave.
Only after Heracles’ figure disappeared at the stairway did Cynthia turn to look at Sean, her tone carrying a hint of relief.
“Sean, your previous speculation was correct. Since the Ouroboros cult’s symbol has appeared here, it means things are far more complex than we imagined.”
“I understand, Lady Cynthia.”
Sean nodded, but his mind was still pondering the matter of the Ouroboros cult.
He looked around the basement while trying to organize his thoughts.
Just then, Sean’s attention was drawn to a statue on the altar table. He reached out to touch it and found that it was fixed to the table surface.
Could this be a mechanism?
Sean instinctively rotated the statue, suddenly feeling a tremor beneath his feet. Immediately after, a complex magic circle lit up under his feet, emitting blinding light.
“Sean, be careful!”
Cynthia noticed the anomaly and immediately called out a warning.
Sean wanted to step out of the magic circle but found that his feet seemed glued to the ground.
“Quick, grab my hand!”
Seeing this, Cynthia quickly extended her hand, trying to pull Sean out of the magic circle’s range.
Sean also reached out toward Cynthia, but it was too late. His body was already enveloped by the magic circle’s light, and their hands were only a body’s width apart but couldn’t touch.
“Lady Cynthia!”
Sean’s voice carried a hint of panic, but his figure had already disappeared into the magic circle.
“Sean!”
Cynthia watched helplessly as Sean was teleported away, becoming tense. Sean was essential for achieving her goal—she absolutely couldn’t lose him.
She bit her lip, forced herself to calm down, and immediately began studying the residual magical aura from the magic circle on the ground, trying to find a way to track Sean.
Meanwhile, Sean felt everything go black, then found himself in a dark, damp cave.
The cave was filled with a strong smell of blood, and the air was thick with a nauseating stench of decay.
Sean’s nerves instantly tensed, and he looked around, trying to find an exit.
He suddenly felt a chill run down his spine as a pair of crimson eyes lit up in the darkness not far away, staring straight at him.
Sean’s heartbeat suddenly accelerated, and he instinctively stepped backward, but his foot stepped on something, producing a crisp “crack” sound.
He looked down and immediately gasped—it was a pile of human bones scattered on the ground, with many more around, as if silently telling of the horror of this place.
Sean’s heart sank, realizing he might have fallen into a trap and been teleported to an extremely dangerous place.
The pair of crimson eyes gradually emerged from the darkness, revealing a massive werewolf.
The werewolf’s mouth was still stained with fresh blood, its fangs exposed, and its entire body emanated chaotic magical energy. It stared at Sean with fierce eyes, as if it had already marked him as prey.
“This is bad…”
Sean swallowed hard, quickly calculating countermeasures in his mind.
He looked around and found a rusty long sword on the ground, quickly picked it up, gripped it in his hand, and assumed a defensive stance.
The werewolf let out a low growl and suddenly pounced at Sean.
Sean quickly dodged, and his previous training came into play at this moment. He used the body techniques Cynthia had taught him to agilely avoid the werewolf’s attacks.
Although he had no magical power or swordsmanship sufficient to counterattack the werewolf, he could at least ensure he wouldn’t die under the werewolf’s claws for the time being.
“Cynthia, you’d better hurry…”
Sean prayed in his heart. The flame saint must be searching for him with all her might right now, since she needed his abilities so desperately.
Time passed minute by minute, but Cynthia’s figure never appeared.
Sean’s strength gradually depleted, and his movements began to slow.
The werewolf seemed to sense his fatigue and its attacks became more ferocious, finally cornering Sean against the cave wall.
“Looks like I have no choice but to use that…”
Sean gritted his teeth and made up his mind, throwing aside the long sword in his hand.
When the werewolf pounced at Sean again with bared fangs and claws, a red light suddenly flashed through the darkness.
The next second, the werewolf’s body suddenly stiffened, then fell heavily to the ground, motionless.
“Phew.”
Sean let out a long breath and walked to the werewolf’s corpse, confirming that it was dead.
He squinted his eyes as if thinking of something, picked up the sword from the ground, and thrust it into the werewolf’s belly, pulling it across with force.
Sean was about to do something else when a light suddenly appeared at the other end of the cave.
He instinctively looked up and saw Cynthia’s figure slowly emerging from a teleportation circle.
Her face showed traces of anxiety, and upon seeing Sean, she immediately ran over to carefully check if he was injured.
“Sean, are you alright? Are you hurt?”
Cynthia’s tone actually carried some nervousness.
“Lady Cynthia, I’m fine, just a bit tired.”
Sean shook his head and forced a smile.
Only then did Cynthia breathe a sigh of relief, and her gaze fell on the werewolf’s corpse on the ground.
“Did you do this?”
“Thanks to Lady Cynthia’s teachings, I was able to maneuver around this thing thanks to the body techniques you taught me, then I found an opportunity to slide under it and cut open its belly with the sword.”
Sean’s heart tightened, but he maintained a calm expression on his face, scratching his head somewhat embarrassedly.
“This werewolf was quite high-level. Your luck won’t be this good next time. Don’t touch strange things randomly in the future—stay close to me, understand?”
Cynthia glared at Sean. If this guy hadn’t been lucky, she might be looking at a corpse right now.
“I’m sorry, Lady Cynthia. I’ll be more careful in the future.”
Sean knew he was in the wrong and could only obediently apologize. At the same time, he noticed Cynthia’s gaze lingering on the werewolf’s corpse, so he pointed to a distance and said.
“Lady Cynthia, look—the entrance to this cave is sealed, like a cage for raising this werewolf.”
However, Cynthia paid no attention to Sean. She crouched down to examine the werewolf’s corpse and found that besides the wound on its abdomen, there was also a finger-wide hole in its head, immediately sensing something was wrong.
She stood up and looked at Sean’s back, frowning.
“Sean, you’re not hiding anything from me, are you?”
